Is laser eye surgery safe?
Yes, it is safe, although it involves certain risks. Please read "Risks" section to understand them. Laser eye surgery is one of the revolutionary treatments available for over 15 years and it would not have survived these many years if it were not safe.
Is the laser eye surgery painful?
It depends on what surgery you undergo. If LASIK, the procedure is painless. Your eye is anesthetised with numbing eye drops. You will be awake and comfortable throughout the procedure. PRK and LASEK are also painless, but may give discomfort after the surgery.
Why would I not be considered for LASIK?
You would not be considered for LASIK, if you:
Have a thin epithelium
Are below 20 years of age
Are pregnant
Have unstable diabetes
Can I have laser eye surgery on both my eye simultaneously?
Yes. The technological advancements make this possible. It is possible to have both of your eyes to have laser eye surgery simultaneously.
Does laser treatment cause cataracts?
No.
I'm over 50 years of age. Can I have laser eye surgery?
Yes, if you have not already developed cataract, you can. However, you will need reading glasses to see the near-by objects clearly.
Do I have to take much time off work?
You must be in complete rest immediately after the surgery. Although you will be ready for normal work within 24 hours, it might be advisable to take a day or two extra off.
Is the laser eye surgery a permanent?
Yes. The change in shape of the cornea following the laser eye surgery is permanent.
When can I drive after the laser eye surgery?
You can drive when you feel comfortable with your vision, but at least after 24 hours.
Will my eyes look different after the surgery?
