Amblyopia
By the time you read this page, even if you have had an amblyopic eye, it should have been corrected at your early childhood itself. An amblyopic eye is often called as "lazy eye". An eye becomes lazy if it doesn't develop normal sight, while the other eye develops, during early childhood.
Astigmatism
Astigmatism is otherwise called as "distortion of image". If you are a person having an astigmatic eye, you will see the images distorted because of the shape of your cornea and / or the lens.
Diplopia
Diplopia is otherwise called as "Double Vision". You are diplopic if you see double of whatever you see. The reason for this is because both your eyes focus images differently and so not forming the binocularity.
Glaucoma
Glaucoma, a group of eye diseases associated with the increase of pressure inside the eye causing optic nerve damage and loss of vision. There is no specific reason why the pressure builds inside the eye.
Hyperopia
Hyperopia is otherwise called as "long-sightedness" or "far-sightedness". You are Hyperopic if you can see distant objects, but not the close ones. The reason for this is either because y our cornea is flatter or the eyeball is shorter than normal, so the light is focused behind your retina rather than directly on to it.
Macular Degeneration
Macula, the small area at the centre of the retina deteriorates with age to cause Macular Degeneration, also known as ARMD (Age-Related Macular Degeneration).
Myopia
Myopia is otherwise called as "short-sightedness" or "near-sightedness". You are Myopic if you are able to see only at a distance of 20 feet or less, what a normal person can see at a distance greater than 20 feet.
Strabismus
Strabismus, an eye misalignment caused by the imbalance in eye muscles. Because of the imbalance, the muscles lose their ability to move both the eyes in an aligned fashion to focus an object, often leading to one of the types of strabismus.
Dry Eye Syndrome
Dry Eye Syndrome is commonly known as "Dry Eye". The medical term for dry eye is K eratoconjunctivitis Sicca or Keratitis Sicca. As the name says the dry eye occurs when you don't have enough tears on the surface of the eye to lubricate and this problem increases with the age.
Cataracts
Cataract is a natural lens of the eye with the cloudiness that can impair vision. Almost half of the people over 65 years have cataract either in one or both the eyes. The cloudiness on the lens of the eye is formed because of the protein build-up that prevents the light from passing through a clear normal lens and causing some loss of the vision.
